Java - Sun Microsystems developed language which adds safe quick user intractability and dynamic functions to web sites. Many Java applications are client side whereas most dynamic content is server side.

It is known that about 10 % of surfers are not java enabled. Search engine spiders do not execute java well either. When possible it is a good idea to place the java in an external file called filename.js

You then want to link to the file using the following code in the head of your page

<script language="JavaScript" src="filename.js"> </script>

If you use java for navigation I strongly recommend placing text links at the bottom of the page.
