Meta Tags - meta tags are located in the head of your page. Search engines use meta tags to help index your content. Originally search engines did not have the power or data storage capability to index entire pages. The meta tags were used to give a representation of the page data. While search engines can view the meta tags the user does not get to see them on the page copy. As the web has grown, meta tags have became less relevant in page rankings and many of the common meta tags are completely ignored by search engines. Page copy and off page criteria are the most important pieces of high listing pages today.
